JOB SUMMARY: UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE DEAN OF TECHNOLOGIES TO ORGANIZE, MAINTAIN AND OPERATE THE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES LABORATORIES AND FACILITIES.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist all faculty in preparation and presentation of labs
- Assist faculty in setting up, operation and use of lab equipment and computers
- Ensure that the necessary equipment and supplies are available for scheduled lab periods
- Test, maintain, calibrate and repair lab apparatus including computers
- Provide assistance with all departmental hardware and software

In collaboration with the Health and Safety Office:

Ensure the safety of the laboratory and associated equipment,
- Maintain safety equipment and post necessary safety regulations
- Obtain and operate A/V equipment when requested
- Maintain the laboratories and prep-room areas clean and in good order
- Schedule and assist students directly with make-up or special lab work
- Submit yearly capital request with consultation of faculty
- Prepare Purchase Requisitions, track Purchase Orders, and pick-up deliveries
- Supervise inventory of departmental equipment, supplier and media materials
- Design and build new laboratory equipment
- Maintain a library of reference journals and magazines for the use of students and staff
- Maintain contact with college service departments, Macdonald College, suppliers and salespersons
- Operate shop tools, office equipment, and all departmental equipment
- Attend department meetings when requested
- Support faculty in various additional tasks, such as invigilation, when needed.
- Perform any other related tasks as may be assigned
- Generate work orders for college service department support.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: College diploma (DEC) in an appropriate specialty (Engineering Technologies) or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
Specific Requirements
Training:
- Valid WHMIS training
- Recent training on the safe use of tools and machinery. (Candidates who have not previously received these trainings will be required to complete them.)
- Electronic and computer trouble shooting and repair
- Mechanical trouble shooting and repair
- Autonomous – able to work with minimal supervision
Assets:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of computer networks
Candidates will be tested to demonstrate knowledge and ability in the following areas:
- Electronic aptitude
- Mechanical aptitude
- English (advanced oral, written comprehension and written production)
- French (intermediate oral)
