Course Details:

  • Schedule: 2 sessions per week, 90 minutes each (lunchtime sessions)

Position Summary:

John Abbott College is seeking a qualified and dynamic French language instructor to deliver a professional development course aimed at improving the French language proficiency of our teaching staff. The course is designed to support faculty in enhancing their ability to deliver academic content in French with greater fluency and confidence.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver a 10-week French language course tailored to the needs of post-secondary educators

  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with course objectives

  • Provide engaging, interactive instruction focused on oral communication, vocabulary development, and pedagogical language use

  • Offer constructive feedback and support to participants

  • Allocate time for course preparation and post-session follow-up

Course Objectives:

  • Improve oral fluency and pronunciation in French

  • Expand vocabulary relevant to academic and classroom contexts

  • Enhance confidence in delivering lectures and interacting with students in French

  • Practice common classroom expressions and pedagogical language

  • Develop strategies for code-switching and language adaptation in bilingual settings

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent* in the arts, completed in French in one of the following fields: French-language literature, literary and cultural studies, linguistics, language sciences, French didactics

  • Master's degree in a related field may be considered

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in French teaching is an asset

  • Experience teaching French as a second language at the post-secondary level preferred

  • Excellent mastery of the French language as assessed by a certification test

  • Equivalent establishes a general comparison between two official education systems
