JOB SUMMARY THE DEAN OF PEDAGOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION REPORTS DIRECTLY TO THE ACADEMIC DEAN AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACADEMIC INTEGRITY OF ALL PROGRAMS UNDER THEIR LEADERSHIP. THE ASSOCIATE DEAN IS EXPECTED TO LEAD AND SUPPORT PEDAGOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION SUPPORTING QUALITY OF PROGRAMMING AND TEACHING AND LEARNING. WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITH ALL MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION, INCLUDING PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THE LIBRARY, THE DEAN IS EXPECTED TO OPTIMIZE AND PROMOTE STUDENT SUCCESS BY ASSURING QUALITY PROGRAMMING AND MAXIMIZING THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN ALL PROGRAMS. ALSO IMPORTANT IS THE ASSOCIATE DEAN'S RESPONSIBILITY TO SUPPORT, IMPLEMENT AND HELP LEAD THE STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGE.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Academic Dean, the Dean will have the following responsibilities:
1. Academic Leadership
- Lead multiple college initiatives to enhance our pedagogical and innovative practices, including those related to the Pedagogical Use of New Technology (PUNT), the Faculty Support Team (FoST) and Faculty Resource People (FRPs);
- Assess and enhance the College's ability to handle potential student and faculty interest in more course delivery flexibility and the implications on student and faculty workload;
- Improve/introduce appropriate mechanisms to guide the use of blended or hybrid learning;
- Identify and implement improvements for defining and assessing students' digital competencies;
- Ensure the delivery of quality programming;
- Coordinate the Program Approach within programs;
- Chair program, curriculum and college committees as required;
- Coordinate the introduction of new and revised programs;
- Lead and facilitate program evaluations;
- Develop and implement work plans that elucidate the short and long term goals and objectives of departments and programs;
- Support Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in carrying out their responsibilities, and promote collaboration among them and faculty;
- Oversee the co-ordination between departmental and program offerings & activities;
- Participate in project management;
- Support innovative pedagogical approaches;
- Participate in the promotion of programs.
2. Personnel Management
- Plan and monitor the allocation of teaching resources;
- Lead the recruitment and selection of new faculty and staff;
- Support the orientation and development of new faculty and staff
- Apply the College Policy on the Evaluation of Teaching;
- Supervise support staff;
- Actively participate in conflict resolution;
3. Resource Management
- Participate in and make decisions on the management and use of budgets,
- Participate in and make decisions on the use of space and equipment in the academic sector;
4. College Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, implementation and application of the IPESA as well as other Academic/College procedures and policies;
- Participate on Academic Council and its sub-committees, and various other College committees and task forces;
- Participate in implementation of international initiatives;
- Contribute to, and lead, the development and implementation of the College's Strategic Plan;
- Participate on committees established by external bodies (Ministry of Education, FÉDÉ, RCMM, CICAN, etc. as required)
- Assure effective management of Program Advisory Committees by developing relationships with external groups such as academic institutions, business, industry and other groups;
- Collaborate with Student Services on initiatives supporting student learning outside the classroom.
5. Other duties assigned by the Academic Dean
QUALIFICATIONS: Education Master's degree or equivalent.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- Five (5) years of relevant leadership experience;
- Extensive knowledge of post-secondary education and aspects of curriculum development;
- Strong organizational and communication skills;
- Ability to lead and motivate teams;
- Strong interpersonal skills, as well as appropriate computer skills;
- Advanced oral and written communication skills in English;
- Intermediate oral and written communication skills in French.
